Form-wise, they look good. Function-wise, yes- you can step on them. But I would not have any expectation of providing any meaningful impact protection.The brackets are just thin- like 1/8" and at least on my 2013 2500HD, the mounts were just to the body underneath. Pretty much guaranteed to bend in any good-sized impact. I'm only 160lbs and stepping on them, they definitely move a little. On the reg cab I have (two mounts each side), they may be shorter than the crew/extended cab versions that have three or more mounts and that's why mine (with only two) feel somewhat flimsy.I'm going to try my hardest to keep the brackets and tubes from rusting, but these are definitely just the type of thing that will anyways...
