Draw-Tite 75658 Hitch for VW Tiguan Review

Purchased this hitch for my 2009 VW Tiguan that was not equipped with a factory hitch. Installation was a breeze. The bumper cover on the Tiguan's have a perforation of sorts and just run a sharp knife along that perforation to make a perfect cutout for the hitch. There are 4 holes in a tubular steel support that runs across the rear under the bumper cover. The holes have nuts welded to the top, so it is just a matter of holding the hitch in place and getting the bolts started. The bolts can be a little difficult to get started, as the nuts that are welded in the support are lock nuts. So, take your time and be sure the bolts are threaded straight before tightening completely. Torque the bolts to 38ft/lbs.

Volkswagen makes an OEM hitch for the Tiguan, but the receiver is 1.25". This is just fine for the 2000lbs towing capacity of the Tiguan, but getting the Draw-Tite hitch makes sense since it is a 2" receiver. Makes the hitch much more versatile, as there are many more 2" towing accessories, than 1.25", and they are generally cheaper. The price of the OEM and Draw-Tite are about the same, so Draw-Tite is the more desirable of the two.

The quality of the hitch is very good. Welds look great, and the black powdercoat finish looks great and should take a good amount of abuse. If there was anything that I could criticize about the hitch is the haphazard way the specification sticker was put on. It was placed on top, and isn't even remotely straight. I peeled it off and removed the residue with Goo-Off, as you should go by the factory tow ratings, and not the Draw-Tite ratings anyway.
