Tuff Stuff Universal Winch Mounting Plate Review

"Universal" is the description which is matching the channel features.
It definitely is not for a stronger winch though, winch like 9000lb or more. Simply because it may fail at certain angle pulls, pulls in which you sometimes would not have other choice than to continue the ones through.

I've evaluated that Tuff Stuff Universal winch channel and want to pass it to you that am not satisfied with that channel.

The reasons are basically three, two fixable and one disqualifying the channel for my application:

1. Fairlead slot is not wide enough for wirerope to freely pass through under pulled load without rubbing against bottom of the slot opening. That would permanently damage the wirerope. That can be fixed by cutting the opening about 1/4 to 3/8 further towards bottom surface. Such modification although having negligible impact on the channel structural strength, would void the warranty and cause the manufacturer disclaimer of the one.

2. Side mounting 2 sets of 4 holes are useless basically because they are too close - only 2 inches apart. That can be fixed by for example re-drilling another 2 X 2 holes farther from other 2 x 2 holes. But such modification would again be a warranty disclaimer.

3. The channel metal is not at least 1/4' or 6mm what I was assured of by your Customer Service representative who took the order. The channel metal is only 3/16 thick. That's why that is not indicated in its specifications. Such difference has a major impact on the channel structural strength and is disqualifying the one for certain angle pulls with 12000lb winch. I would not use it on any winch stronger than 8000lb.
By the way every car hitch I've worked with - class III (6000lb) and up have had side metal frame attachment brackets made of at least 1/4' thick steel plate, not 3/16, and that makes it significantly weaker.
It is disqualifying for.

Overall not satisfied with that purchase.
